Rogerio Micale, Brazilian taccoach therapist
The EFA said in a short statement on Facebook that Micale, former coach of Saudi Arabian team Al-Hilal and Al Dhafra of the United Arab Emirates, will be the new coach of the Olympic team without disclosing further details. .
Reports in Egyptian media have suggested that the official unveiling of the new coach will take place at a press conference on Wednesday.
Micale, 53, will succeed former coach Shawky Gharib who was sacked earlier in February, with the EFA citing a lack of commitments this year as the main reason at the time.
Gharib was appointed coach of the U23 team last September for a third stint, but he hasn’t played any games with the young Pharaohs.
Under Gharib’s guidance, Egypt earned their first-ever bronze medal by finishing third in the 2021 U20 World Championship. He also led the team to the 2019 U23 Africa Cup of Nations title to qualify for the 2021 U20 World Championship. the quarter-finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
A significant achievement in Micale’s coaching career was guiding the Brazilian Olympic football team to the gold medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
He also guided the Brazil U-20 national football team to win the silver medal at the 2015 World Championship.
Micale’s first challenge with the Egyptian team will be in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The U23 Africa Cup of Nations will take place next year and the top three teams are expected to qualify for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
